ALERT: Virus Hoax There's another virus hoax going around. This one tells you to find and delete a file called: jdbgmgr.exe Don't delete it! It's a Java debugging file (some Java applets may not work correctly without it ). Although it's not the most important file on your computer, it's still probably best to leave it intact. This gets passed around by an e-mail that warns the file is a "dormant" virus and automatically activates on a certain date. It also claims that anti-virus software can't remove it. Big time hoax. Why is this a tip off? If the file is a virus and on your computer, then Anti Virus software can get it. Think about it, if you can find the file, then your Anti Virus software can too. If it was really a problem, it would alert you. Remember, just because it's in a forwarded e-mail, doesn't automatically make it true. ************************* |

Q: What's the difference between Save and Save As? A: When you use the Save command, you save your work under it's current file name. If you've never saved whatever it is you're working on before, then you'll get an opportunity to name it. When you use Save As, you get a chance to save what you're working on as a new file. Here's an example. Let's say you're working on a word processing document. It's a new document and you decide to save it. A box comes up that lets you give it a name. Now, let's say you add something to this word processing document later. If you use the Save command again, it simply saves it with no questions asked under the existing file name. OK, now let's say you make a modification to the file, but you want to keep the original version as well. This is where you use Save As. When you use the Save As command, it allows you to save your current file as a new file with a new name. Now when you go to open your files, you'll find you have both the original version and the new, Saved As version. ************************* |

Here's a little tip my AOL friends might
check out.....
In the April 2002 issue of the AARP Bulletin there was an article
stating that AARP members could save 10 percent on their monthly
rate for unlimited internet access from AOL.
It is my understanding that your can receive the 10% discount
even if you are a current subscriber to the AOL service by sending
an e-mail to aarp1@aol.com
with your name, AOL screen name and AARP membership number in it.
To sign up for the full service access with AOL call toll free
(877)523-4493 and ask for the special AARP rate on the Standard
Unlimited Plan.
Might save you about 2.50/month or so if you are interested.

HistoryWired:
A few of our favorite things
The National Museum of American History has a vast collection of over three million objects, obviously they can’t exhibit all of it at once. Wait! Maybe they can, or at least they can try to. That is exactly what they’re doing with this site where you can see the initial 450 items displayed on the web. The items include famous, unusual, and everyday items with well written descriptions. Curious as to what you will see there? How about Abraham Lincoln's Life Mask? Or the Mormon “Sunstone” Sculpture? There’s a lot here to look at and enjoy. Dig in to the past with History Wired. http://historywired.si.edu/index.html |
